Our Capitol Office staff works primarily in Sacramento and focuses on legislation that I author, as well as analyzes the thousands of bills introduced each year. Capitol staff looks at each bill and determines how it will affect you, our constituents, and all of our communities in the Seventh Senate District.
To get a better understanding of the legislative process we have a brochure here on the website entitled, “Citizens Guide to the Legislative Process.” You can find it in the “Brochure” section under the “District” tab.
There Ought to Be a Law: If you have an idea for a new law or to fix a current law, we would like to hear from you. We invite you to participate in our “There Ought to Be a Law” contest. This provides you with the opportunity to have your ideas and thoughts heard on what you think needs to be changed or added to California law. The application is also on the site under the “District” tab. If you have an idea that you would like to share, please fill out the application online by clicking here. We look forward to reading your ideas.
Meetings with the Senator: Requests to meet with Senator DeSaulnier are best directed to Lynne Shields via e-mail. Please provide the purpose of the meeting, when you would like to meet, and who would be attending. She will respond to all requests ASAP.
Media: Requests from the media should be directed to Sam Mahood via e-mail or by calling him in the capitol office at (916) 651-4007.
