Capitol Staff

Our Capitol Office staff works primarily in Sacramento and focuses on legislation that I author, as well as analyzes the thousands of bills introduced each year.  Capitol staff looks at each bill and determines how it will affect you, our constituents, and Contra Costa County.

To get a better understanding of the legislative process we have a brochure here on the website entitled, “Citizens Guide to the Legislative Process.”  You can find it in the “Brochure” section under the “District” tab.

If you have an idea for a new law or to fix a current law, we would like to hear from you.  We invite you to participate in our “There Ought to Be a Law” contest.  This provides you with the opportunity to have your ideas and thoughts heard on what you think needs to be changed or added to California law. The application is also on the site under the “District” tab. Since we started this contest in 2007 three “There Ought to Be a Law” bills have been signed into law: AB 1531 improved parking for disabled Californians, AB 2949 saved the lives of animals abandoned during foreclosures and SB 702 required temporary child-care providers to undergo background checks. If you have an idea that you would like to share, please fill out the application online by clicking here. We look forward to reading your ideas.
