Today, Day 6 of my 22 day, 22 daily pushup challenge to raise awareness about veterans' suicides, I met up with some labor friends: Robbie Hunter, president of the Building & Construction Trades Council, Cesar Diaz, legislative director of the Council, and Nick Weathers, a U.S. Army veteran who is a Helmet to Hard Hat representative who links up veterans with jobs in construction. Today, we did our pushups in the building trades’ office near the Capitol. An average of 22 U.S. veterans commit suicide every day – 8,000 a year – which means we must commit ourselves to providing adequate and necessary services and care to these cherished members of our community.
