Vito Imbasciani, California Secretary for Veterans Affairs, and two veterans joined me today on Day 7 of my 22 day, 22 daily pushup challenge to raise awareness about veterans' suicides. Mr. Imbasciani served as the counter for the pushups I did with Gary Leach, Commander of the Department of California American Legion and Russell Atterberry, the deputy secretary for Veterans Affairs who recently finished a 22-year stint in the U.S. Navy. Today, we did our pushups at the All Veterans Memorial at the Capitol. An average of 22 U.S. veterans commit suicide every day – 8,000 a year – which means we must commit ourselves to providing adequate and necessary services and care to these cherished members of our community.
