Today, we went under the Capitol dome for Day 8 of my 22 day, 22 daily pushup challenge to raise awareness about veterans' suicides. And I had the special honor of being joined by Senate President pro Tem Kevin de Leon and Michelle Lazark, a U.S. Army veteran and Sacramento police officer. We did our pushups in the beautiful office of the president pro tem, who has been very supportive of veterans’ issue. An average of 22 U.S. veterans commit suicide every day – 8,000 a year – which means we must commit ourselves to providing adequate and necessary services and care to these cherished members of our community.
