SENATOR ARREGUÍN STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR NEWSOM’S 2025-26 BUDGET PROPOSAL

Senator Jesse Arreguín (D-Berkeley) made the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2025-26 State Budget:

“As we face future financial uncertainty with the incoming federal administration, approving a fiscally responsible and balanced budget is needed to create stability while protecting our values and meeting the needs of Californians.”

I appreciate the Governor’s budget to address what Californians, and especially the East Bay, deserve - public safety, social services, good jobs, education and accountability. All of this can be done without the need to cut core programs.

As Chair of both the Public Safety and Human Services Committees, I am committed to funding programs that move forward policies in these areas. This includes the implementation of Prop 36 and ensuring that the will of the voters are met. I am pleased to see the proposed budget provides a diaper program that will save families $300. With the passage of Propositions 2 and 4, I am excited to see how we will be able to make additional investments to address wildfires and climate change and improve our public schools.

I look forward to working with my colleagues and the executive branch in the coming months to deliver a budget that creates long-term investments in our communities’ needs and priorities.”
