As California and the United States host the World Cup, this year’s legislative session is now in its critical second half.
The 2026 legislative year is in full swing, with policy committees hearing bills on their way to the Senate floor. As Chair of both the Senate Housing Committee and Public Safety Committee, I am responsible for reviewing all bills relating to housing production, affordable housing, homelessness, the state prison system and criminal justice.
As a result of the ongoing federal shutdown, CalFresh benefits, which are funded through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will lapse on November 1st unless Congress takes immediate action or the courts intervene.
Working in partnership with state and local leaders in the Bay Area, I am committed to vigorously supporting and defending your constitutional rights.
With this year’s legislation session having concluded, I am proud to update you on key accomplishments.
With summer here, I wanted to provide you an update on the work being done in Sacramento to uplift the East Bay and California.
On March 8, I had the honor of addressing the East Bay in a community swearing-in, featuring community groups, elected officials, and cultural performances from youth throughout the region.
