Governor Newsom Unveils Conditions Needed to Meet to Relax Stay-At-Home Order

There are 6 key indicators that will be considered. The Governor noted that the progress in flattening the curve, increased preparedness of our health care delivery system and the effects of other COVID-19 interventions have yielded positive results. However, these actions have also impacted the economy, poverty and overall health care in California. Any consideration of modifying the stay-at-home order must be done using a gradual, science-based and data-driven framework. Please read here for more.

East Bay Regional Center Agencies Meeting Your Needs

The Association of Regional Center Agencies (ARCA) represents the network of 21 non-profit regional centers. The centers support over 350,000 people with developmental disabilities and their families in coordination with local community partners. Each person served by a regional center works with a service coordinator who helps them meet their needs. Many people in your district are part of this community. To assist you in responding to constituent questions, we wish to share the following.

The COVID-19 emergency has disrupted life for all Californians. This impacts people served by the regional centers and their families in very significant ways, as the schools, day programs, and daycares they rely on for care and supervision are no longer providing daily in-person support in the same way. This means thousands of people need help meeting new needs.

Particularly in this time of uncertainty, regional centers remain ready to help and are here to be creative in meeting the needs of the people who rely on them. Service coordinators can identify services that can help meet new or different needs at this time. For some, this means coordinating critical changes to round-the-clock care in residential or supported living settings. For others, they can approve increases in respite, personal assistance, or independent living services. Service coordinators have been proactively reaching out to people they serve and their families to ask what help they need and how the regional center can be part of the solution.

Working together, people served by regional centers, their families, and service coordinators can minimize the impact of these changes. Regional centers stand ready to help and are only a phone call away. Your district is served by one regional center. Please click on the following link for information about COVID-19:

Conducting Census During COVID-19

The most important thing that someone can do to avoid potential person-to-person contact is to complete the Census survey in one of the three ways that do not require it: online, by phone or by mail. Mailed invitations go out on March 12 and should arrive by March 20, with additional mailings arriving through the end of April. We encourage everyone to respond online as soon as possible, following the instructions in the invitation letter.

Here are the ways to respond to Census 2020 that avoid person-to-person contact:

  • Respond to the U.S Census online at my2020census.gov.
  • If you need help or would prefer to respond by phone, the Census Bureau has toll-free phone numbers available every day from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pacific time. Toll free numbers are provided in 13 different languages
  • Some households in areas with limited or no Internet access will receive a paper form on the first mailing, but everyone who has not responded online or by phone will receive a paper form in mid-April that can be returned by mail.

Responding online, by phone, or by mail will minimize the need to send census takers out into the community. We get an accurate count while avoiding person-to-person contact.
