Contra Costa County – On Thanksgiving eve, BART announced a tentative labor contract with their represented groups, after secret negotiations were held during BART Directors’ campaign elections. The agreement is scheduled to be acted upon at their Thursday meeting (December 3).

The following is a statement from Senator Steve Glazer:

ORINDA – Senator Steve Glazer, D-Contra Costa, on Friday called on BART’s management and board to embrace the transit district’s first Inspector General’s efforts to look for waste, fraud and abuse in the sprawling agency.

In her report, released this week, Inspector General Harriet Richardson said that BART management is blocking her from doing a “risk assessment” of their various offices, which she said she would use to guide her inquiries.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Steve Glazer will hold a press availability Friday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. to urge passage of his legislation to raise fines for short-term rental abuses. He will also discuss Air BnB’s unprecedented decision to pursue legal claims against one of their short term rental guests. In the last few weeks, there have been short-term rental abuses in Los Angeles and Northern California, including a party at a Sacramento-area rental earlier this month where three people were shot after violence erupted at the gathering.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate on Monday approved Senator Steve Glazer’s bill to deter people from taking advantage of short-term rentals to host disruptive and unsafe house parties. A mass shooting in Orinda that killed five and injured four others at a party hosted at an AirBnB rental last Halloween sparked the legislation.

The bill, SB 1049, was approved on a bipartisan vote, 32-7, and moves to the Assembly.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Steve Glazer, D-Contra Costa, released this statement on the Senate’s consideration of ACA 5:

Recently, I have watched with anger as top officials in this country appealed to anti-Asian sentiments to try to win favor or cast aspersions; a disgraceful practice from California and American history.
